Many parents are concerned at the level of European Union spending aimed at influencing the opinions of young people in schools.

The legal position 8

Campaign for an Independent Britain has produced two booklets which you can use to set the record straight.

Britain and the European Union - Frequently Asked Questions

For everyone who needs detailed, authoritative statistics and references about Britain's relationship with the European Union. Produced in conjunction with the EuroFAQ website, this is the definitive reference guide for students and others who want the FACTS about Britain and the EU.

Britain and Europe - Are We Being Taken For A Ride?

Produced for schoolchildren, this booklet uses the metaphor of a train journey into 'Euroland' to spell out (with hard facts) the dangers of continued British membership of the European Union.

In order to help us cover costs, we are asking all supporters to buy these bookets from our on-line supplier if possible.

If you feel unable to afford to purchase these booklets, please contact us.

Please note we are unable to accept returns or cancellations on publications ordered on-line.

Some specific actions which all parents can take include:

  • Write to the Director of Education for your area expressing your concern at what you have heard about the one-sided nature of the information being provided to schools about the EU, and reminding him of his obligation under Section 4 of the 1996 Education Act which "places a duty on LEAs' Governing Bodies and headteachers to ensure that a balanced view of politically controversial subjects is put before pupils."
  • Write to the Clerk of your school's Board of Governors asking if European issued are to be included as part of the overall curriculum. If the answer is 'yes' stress the need for balance in the debate and suggest that groups such as Campaign for an Independent Britain be invited to address the school. (It is important to point out that CIB is a cross party organization with support across the political spectrum - it is not a political party.) Email us for suggestions for speakers.
  • Where pro-European Union material is used unchallenged, insist that materials putting the alternative position be made available. Offer to provide Campaign for an Independent Britain schools materials (above) for the school library.
