Campaign for an Independent Britain has elected Dr Bob Spink MP as our new chairman. Bob succeeds Lord Stoddart who has stepped down after 23 years’ service to the cause of British independence.

'The British people yearn for politicians to listen to them on the EU. They want clear and consistent leadership, from Westminster, which supports the national interest’, said Bob Spink immediately after his election.

'I'm greatly honoured to be elected to help the CIB mobilise public opinion at this crucial time, in the run up the EU and general elections.

'CIB represents the 7 in 10 British people who want an honest, mature and constructive relationship with Europe, but who want end the haemorrhaging of our democracy, money and jobs to the European Union. We want to start the process of regaining the primacy of our Parliament and laws.'

Campaign for an Independent Britain has always said that the issue of Britain’s relationship with the European Union is more important than party politics. CIB welcomes supporters and members from across the political spectrum, and Bob and his newly elected team will be looking at new ways in which CIB can continue to promote the benefits to Britain of freeing itself from the stranglehold of the European Union.

DEMAND YOUR SAY ON THE E.U. CONSTITUTION!

In 2004 the EU's plan for a Constitution was blown out of the water when it was rejected by voters in Holland and France.

Now the Eurocrats - led by Germany - are at it again. Only this time they are calling the process a series of EU 'Treaty Changes'. Whatever the name, the current negotiations in Berlin involve the transfer of yet more of our rights to Brussels. Defence, foreign affairs, employment law, the creation of the role of European President (which Tony Blair wants to occupy) - all will be directed from Brussels - without the inconvenience of a vote!

We are demanding that Blair and Brown honour the commitment made to the British people in the last Labour Party manifesto to give us, the electors, a say on the transfer of further powers to the EU.

To do this, we need to lobby our MPs. A poll (by the Democracy Movement) has shown that over 50 Labour MPs are prepared to defy Government whips and vote for a referendum. As the Government has a majority of 67, it would only need 34 Labour MPs to vote with the opposition for us to get a referendum!
