Information about Britain and the European Union

Four steps to action...

1) Please write to your MP demanding that we, the British people, have the final say, through a referendum, on the transfer of further powers to the European Union. Please state that you are one of their constituents. It is usually better to write as a private individual rather than saying you are a member of an organization.

(If you are unsure who your MP is go please use enter your postcode in the box at the end of this page below and click 'Go' to see the name of your MP.

2) Please prepare your letter, making the following points:

• Urge your MP to sign the Parliamentary Early Day Motion (No.1780) proposed by Bob Spink MP. This Motion calls on the government to put any changes in the constitutional relationship between the UK and the EU to referendum. (You can see whether your MP has signed this EDM by visiting http://edmi.parliament.uk/EDMi/EDMDetails.aspx?EDMID=33617&SESSION=885. If they have signed the EDM please write and congratulate them!)
• The French and Dutch 'no' votes on the proposed EU constitution should have been an end to the manner. No amount of window dressing and name-changing can disguise the fact that the wishes of the peoples of Europe for an end to further EU integration have been shamefully ignored.
• Over 80% of the British electorate want a referendum before any new EU Treaty becomes the law in Britain. (Populus poll, 8-10 June 2007.)
