Save our post offices!
Many people are concerned about declining postal services and post office closures, but few realize that there's a European dimension to the problem.
Postal services is one of the many areas where successive British governments have surrendered effective control to unelected European bureaucrats. The result has been higher costs, closures of 'uneconomic' post offices, particularly in rural areas, and over-regulation.
EU Directive 97/86 EU established a 'universal postal service' within the EU. 'Recital 20' to this Directive encourages postal service providers to display the EU 12 stars logo on post boxes, replacing, in the case of the UK, the traditional royal crest.
